BOA®
Quick, precise closure — micro-adjustable fit you can fine-tune in seconds.
The BOA® Fit System is used on selected AKU models to deliver a fast, effortless, precision fit. Instead of tying knots, a micro-adjustable dial tightens a super-strong lace through low-friction guides — creating a secure, even closure. It’s especially useful when conditions are cold, wet, or you need adjustments on the move.

The BOA® Fit System offers a micro-adjustable precision fit designed for demanding conditions. The patented system consists of three integral parts: a micro-adjustable dial, a lightweight, super-strong lace, and low-friction lace guides. Together, they create a secure closure that’s quick to fine-tune and easy to release. |
1) Dial
Fine-tunes fit with precision — quick, repeatable micro-adjustments for a secure feel.
2) Lace
A lightweight, super-strong lace configured for precision and durability in demanding use.
3) Guides
Low-friction lace guides replace traditional eyelets, helping distribute closure more evenly and smoothly.
Tip: Make one or two clicks/turns at a time — it’s designed for small, precise changes rather than big jumps.
BOA® systems are built for hard use, but like any closure they perform best when kept clear of packed grit and dried correctly.

BOA® appears on selected models where quick adjustment, secure closure and ease of use (including with gloves) are priorities. Browse by category below.
Tip: Tell us your terrain and use case, and we’ll point you to the BOA® models that make the most sense for how you move. |
How do I tighten and loosen BOA®?
Push the dial to engage, turn to tighten, and pull the dial out to release. Make small adjustments — one or two turns at a time — for best comfort.
Will BOA® loosen on its own?
In normal use it should hold securely. If you notice slippage, check the dial is fully engaged (pushed in) and that the lace is routed cleanly through the guides. If the fit feels inconsistent, the issue is often lace routing or packed grit — a quick rinse can help.
My dial feels stiff or gritty — what should I do?
Rinse with clean water to clear mud/sand, then gently work the dial (engage/turn/release). Let the boot dry naturally away from direct heat. Avoid forcing the dial if it’s packed with grit — clean first.
Can BOA® be repaired if something breaks?
Often, yes. BOA provides replacement parts and step-by-step repair guides for many dial systems. Parts vary by model/dial type — if you share your AKU model name, we can help you identify the right approach.
Is BOA® better than traditional laces?
It’s different rather than “better” for everyone. BOA excels when you want quick micro-adjustments, glove-friendly closure, and no loose lace ends. Traditional laces can offer more custom patterning across many eyelets. If you tell us your use case, we’ll recommend the best option.
Will BOA® change sizing or fit compared to laces?
The boot last and volume matter most, but BOA can feel more “even” and secure because closure is consistent. Choose your normal AKU size unless the product page advises otherwise. If you’re between sizes or using thick socks, we can help.
