Repairs & Resoling

AKU repairs and re-soling

AKU footwear is built for real outdoor use — and built to last. The right routine and the right repair route can keep your boots comfortable, stable and reliable for years, not just seasons.

If the upper is still in good condition but the tread is worn and grip has dropped, a re-sole can often restore confidence underfoot without starting again from scratch.

Why repair and resole?

  • Keep the fit you trust: hold onto uppers you’ve already broken in while restoring grip and stability underfoot.
  • Performance, not waste: extending service life protects the value in a technically-built boot — a more considered way to own outdoor footwear.
  • The quiet premium choice: longevity is part of outdoor credibility — practical, dependable, and made for real use.

AKU is about Italian craft, understated technical design and long-term comfort. Repairability fits naturally into that mindset.

UK repairs and re-soling

AKU UK recommends Lancashire Sports Repairs (LSR) for repair needs — including re-soling and a wide range of outdoor footwear repairs.

What LSR can help with
  • Re-soling to restore worn tread and grip.
  • Rand replacement (typically carried out during a resole).
  • Lace hooks / D-rings and other hardware repairs.
  • Stitching/patching options designed to avoid damaging waterproof linings.
Useful to know
  • Heel lining repairs may be possible depending on the boot.
  • LSR state they are a licensed GORE-TEX® repair specialist.
  • LSR stock many sole units and may fit a compatible option if an original unit isn’t available.

What does a resole involve?

A resole isn’t a quick cosmetic fix — it’s a workshop process intended to restore function. LSR explain that boots are fitted onto a boot last to help retain shape, then finished by hand, inspected, and given a coating of a suitable conditioning/waterproofing agent.

When is re-soling worth it?

Usually a good option
  • Uppers are still supportive and in good condition.
  • Tread is worn and you’ve lost traction/stability.
  • The boot still fits well and remains comfortable.
Important note
  • If the upper is split/perished beyond secure repair, replacement may be the best option.
  • If footwear is leaking, LSR note they cannot guarantee repairs will rectify this.

Before you send your boots

  • Clean first: remove mud/dirt and avoid heavy grease/wax build-up. LSR note excessive grease/wax may prevent adhesives bonding correctly.
  • Dry naturally: allow boots to dry fully in a well-ventilated place, away from direct heat.
  • Follow LSR instructions: use LSR mail order guidance for packaging and sending.

Longevity basics

The most sustainable boot is the one you can keep using. A few simple habits protect materials, maintain comfort, and make re-soling more worthwhile when the time comes:

  • Dry naturally with airflow, away from direct heat.
  • Condition leather occasionally with a nourishing cream to keep it supple and supported.
  • Use a protective spray periodically to support water repellency on leather and fabrics.

A little maintenance keeps uppers stronger for longer — and extends the working life of a technically-built boot.
