Repairs & Care

AKU Repairs & Care is your hub for getting the longest, best performance life from your AKU footwear. Correct cleaning, drying and routine maintenance protects materials, preserves breathability and waterproof performance (where specified), and helps prevent premature wear caused by embedded grit, salts and ground detritus. When uppers are still in good condition but tread is worn, resoling can restore stability and grip without replacing the whole boot.

What to expect from AKU Repairs & Care

  • Care guidance that reduces failures: Practical cleaning and drying steps that help protect materials, adhesives, and linings from premature breakdown.
  • Maintenance that supports performance: Routine upkeep helps preserve comfort, breathability and waterproofing performance where your model uses a membrane system.
  • Repair-first approach: If uppers and structure are still sound, repair or resole rather than replace to extend service life.

Care & maintenance essentials

  • Remove dirt after use: When footwear is dry, brush off dust, mud and dirt with a soft brush. For stubborn dirt, use a cloth moistened with cold water.
  • Avoid aggressive products: Never use solvents, harsh chemicals, or overly hard brushes that can damage leather and plastic components.
  • No machine washing or pressure washing: Do not wash in a washing machine and do not use pressure washers; high temperatures and pressure can damage components.
  • Dry correctly: Air-dry naturally. Avoid radiators, direct heat, and high-heat drying environments.
  • Keep them from staying wet: Long periods of trapped moisture can damage materials and shorten lifespan—dry fully between uses whenever possible.
  • Leather upkeep: Leather is a natural material and benefits from regular conditioning/protection appropriate to the leather type of your model.

Repairs & resoling

  • Repair before replacement: If there are issues with small parts, stitching, upper damage or rubber edges, it doesn’t automatically mean the footwear is finished—many faults are repairable.
  • Resoling when tread is worn: If the upper remains functional and supportive but the tread no longer guarantees stability and grip due to wear, resoling may be the right option.

FAQ's

  • Why does cleaning matter so much? Ground dirt and grit can accelerate wear and can damage materials and bonds over time. Removing debris after use helps protect the boot and maintain performance.
  • Can I wash AKU boots in a washing machine? No. Do not machine wash and do not use pressure washers—high temperatures and pressure can damage components.
  • How should I dry my footwear? Air-dry naturally and avoid direct heat (radiators, fires, hot air blasts). Ensure footwear is fully dry before storage.
  • When should I resole instead of replacing? When the upper is still in good condition and functional, but the tread is worn enough that grip and stability are reduced.
