AKU Rock DFS II Gore-Tex (AK717) – Anthracite/Lime

The AKU Rock DFS II Gore-Tex in Anthracite/Lime is a 398g approach shoe built for the transition between trail and technical rock. AKU's Dual Fit System gives two independent lacing zones: run the approach loose and comfortable for trail miles, then lock the upper zone down for sensitive, precise contact on footholds — without removing the shoe. Vibram Megagrip outsole for maximum friction on wet and dry rock. Suede 1.6mm + Microfibre + Air8000 upper with Rubber Rand protecting the edges on rough ground. Gore-Tex Extended Comfort membrane — waterproof and built for high-output movement. Men's UK 3–13. Resoleable.

WHY YOU'LL LIKE IT

  • Vibram Megagrip outsole — the highest-friction Vibram compound for maximum grip on wet rock, dry slab, and technical terrain from the approach walk to the crux
  • AKU Dual Fit System (DFS) — two independent lacing zones let you dial the fit between trail comfort on the approach and technical precision on footholds, adjustable without removing the shoe
  • Rubber Rand with Suede 1.6mm + Microfibre + Air8000 upper — the rand protects the upper against rock abrasion on rough edges; Air8000 backing keeps airflow moving on sustained active approaches
  • Gore-Tex Extended Comfort waterproofing — designed for high-output movement, it keeps feet dry on wet UK mountain terrain without generating the heat buildup of a heavier membrane
  • UK 3–13 — AKU lasts run narrower than most UK footwear; if you have a wider foot or are between sizes, sizing up is recommended

BEST FOR

  • Climbers and scramblers who need waterproof approach shoes with genuine technical precision on footholds — the DFS lacing transitions from approach comfort to technical fit without stopping to change footwear
  • UK Grade 1–2 scrambles where a walking boot is too clumsy and a pure climbing shoe unnecessary — Crib Goch, Striding Edge, Aonach Eagach, Jack's Rake, and similar committing ground where grip and edge sensitivity matter
  • Approach routes in wet conditions where Vibram Megagrip's wet-rock friction outperforms standard approach compounds — the first choice when the rock will be damp before you reach it
